Kelly Brown, the Scotland international flanker has backed his Saracens FC team mate Chris Ashton to earn a recall to the England national team on the back of some stunning performances for the London club in recent months.
The young England man has been labeled as a failure in international rugby but he hit back in stunning fashion as he scored two tries to help Saracens to a 46-6 thrashing of Clermont Auvergne as the London side reached the Heineken Cup final.
Ashton played his last test for the England team in the 30-22 loss to New Zealand at home and since then, he has been left in the cold by head coach Stuart Lancaster. He didn’t make the squad for the Six Nations Championships this years as well.
But after spending almost two full seasons with the former Wigan Warriors player, Brown thinks Ashton is an asset that Lancaster cannot ignore for too long. Speaking of his team mate, Brown stated that the decision lies with the coaches but if it were up to him, he would be the first choice in the list.
Brown went on to add that when Ashton was first signed by Saracens FC, he thought it was a good move and Ashton was a good player who could get on the end of things. But it was after playing with him did he realize how much work he puts in off the ball.
The Scotsman admitted that the year has been a tough one for Ashton and he has taken a lot of criticism, some of which have been unfair, but that is the life of a rugby player. And now, with the kind of form Ashton and Saracens FC are showing, it is only a matter of time before he gets his place back.
